Conditional release (parole)

Conditional release allows a convict who has served the statutory fraction of the sentence in the institution with good conduct to spend the remainder outside. Enforcement fractions vary by offence type, with higher fractions applied to categories such as terrorism and organised crime.

The decision rests on a good-conduct assessment by the enforcement judgeship. The released convict remains under a supervision period lasting until the full-term release date; committing an intentional offence during it, or persistently violating the obligations, results in revocation and enforcement of the remainder inside.

The institution changes the mode of enforcement rather than extinguishing the sentence: the conviction and its criminal-record consequences persist. In practice, release dates calculated jointly with probation are directly affected by amendments to enforcement legislation, which makes having the fractions and periods computed on the specific file essential.
