Criminal record

The criminal record is the official register of final criminal convictions. Pending cases, non-prosecution decisions and acquittals are not entered in it.

Upon completion of the sentence, withdrawal of the complaint or effective remorse and the other situations listed by statute, the entries are deleted and moved to the archive record. Archive entries are in turn erased entirely after the statutory periods, with longer periods and the restoration of forfeited rights required for convictions entailing certain disqualifications.

The record is requested in job applications, entry into public service and tender procedures, and can be obtained through the national e-government system. Access to archive records is restricted by statute to designated authorities. Where a record persists after the sentence has been fully executed, a deletion application must be made, since erasure does not as a rule operate automatically.
