An initial phase of employment allowing the parties to assess each other, during which either may terminate without notice or compensation.
All termsA probation period is an initial phase of employment allowing employer and employee to assess one another. It applies only if agreed in the contract; Turkish law does not impose one automatically.
The period may not exceed the statutory ceiling, which can be extended within limits by collective agreements. During probation, either party may terminate the contract without observing notice periods and without compensation. The employee's wages and other entitlements for days worked remain payable in all cases.
Probation does not place the work outside the law: social security registration is mandatory from day one, and the period counts toward seniority-based rights. Employing staff without registration under the label of a trial period is a common but sanctionable practice.
