All terms

Remote work is an employment relationship based on a written contract in which the employee performs work at home or outside the workplace through technological means. Turkish law defines it by statute, with details set out in a dedicated regulation.

The contract must address the definition of the work, its duration, provision of equipment, communication rules and general working conditions. Remote workers may not be treated less favourably than comparable on-site employees merely because of how they work; general rules on overtime, leave and compensation apply. Converting an existing relationship to remote work in principle requires mutual agreement, though employers may impose it unilaterally in cases of force majeure.

Occupational health and safety duties continue in remote work. Whether accidents at home qualify as occupational accidents depends on their connection with the performance of work and remains a debated area of practice.
